Green Party supports animal torture

Keith Taylor, one of Britain's two Green MEPs, is aghast at the European Parliament's plan to serve up foie gras -

Dear President Schulz,

I’m emailing you in my capacity as Vice-Chair of the Parliament’s animal welfare intergroup because I’ve learned that today the Jan Restaurant will be serving MEPs a Christmas meal featuring foie gras.

As you will be aware, the production of foie gras inflicts immense suffering on ducks and geese. The European Union’s own Scientific Committee on Animal Health and Animal Welfare – whose members include more than a dozen professors of veterinary medicine and animal science from across Europe – concluded that “force feeding, as currently practised, is detrimental to the welfare of the birds”.

Pity the Green Party doesn't condemn halal slaughter, though - I guess it would count as racist or something. This year's European Elections Manifesto calls on Brussels to introduce "mandatory labelling of meat and dairy products as to the country of source, method of production and the method of slaughter", but not the compulsory stunning of animals prior to their being hacked to death.

Too busy supporting the ruining of ancient lines in the earth.

  2. Any form of slaughter which precludes pre-stunning is barbaric and should not be permitted in this country. This includes halal, kosher and anything else that may be occuring. Any product from abroad which is the result of such should not be permitted to be imported either.

If the proponents don't like it being prohibited, then they may leave.
